Did you know?
- that cellphones pinpoint their owner's location even when
they are not in use? In a recent New Zealand investigation evidence was given
by the New Zealand Police tracking the movements of a suspect using cellphone
records. Telecom New Zealand says they receive about 12,000 requests a year
for official access to information about cellphone, landline and internet
users. Vodafone would not give a figure but say they deal with the police on a
daily basis. Police in Switzerland recently admitted that they have been
secretly tracking the movements of more than one million cellphone users. - that changes to be included in the Telecommunications Bill
in New Zealand will make it compulsory for telephone network operators to
intercept communications going over their network, when authorised by a
warrant from the Police. The Government will pay about NZ$3 million so calls
from all land and mobile phone networks, as well as emails can be intercepted. - that Digital Angel Corporation has announced that it has
entered into a product and technology licensing agreement that makes available
its proprietary, implantable microchips, scanners and delivery system,
including its state-of-the-art, FDA-compliant physician call center, to
VeriChip Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of Applied Digital Solutions.
On April 4, 2002, Applied Digital Solutions announced that it has received
written guidance that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) does not
consider VeriChip's personal verification technology to be a regulated
medical device. This clears the way for the sales, marketing and distribution
of Digital Angel Corporation technology licensed to VeriChip Corporation in
the United States. On April 8, 2002, Applied Digital Solutions announced that
VeriChip Corporation will launch a new Global VeriChip Subscriber (GVS)
Registry service on May 1, 2002. This program will enable VeriChip subscribers
to store pertinent personal verification and healthcare information in the
company's secure database. The GVS Registry will be hosted and maintained by
Digital Angel Corporation's operation and support center, which includes a
state-of-the-art, FDA-compliant, 24/7 physician-staffed call center. For
