Crop dusters at the ready
A way back in 1998, the Time Magazine headlined an
article, entitled "America the vulnerable -– A disaster is just waiting to
happen if Iraq unleashes its poisons and germs. Saddam Hussein's unwatched
arsenal of poisons and germs can redouble the threat to America and the
terrorists are already amongst us...
In other words, yes, they are in danger. Americans no longer
believe their country is immune to terrorism as they did for decades, and they
are spending big money to fight the threat -– more than $400 million in federal
counter-terror programmes alone....
New York City drill is an example, but experts insist the
U.S. is essentially insecure. The boarders are porous. The Government cannot
keep track of routine visa violators, and the population is forever on the move.
The U.S. is a sea into which evil doers can dive and remain submerged.
Terrorists, like any one else, have little difficulty in obtaining guns or the
simple makings for oil barrel truck bombs. Now the new terror could be an even
more lethal destroyer -– microbes. Germ weapons are small, cheap, easy to hide,
simple to dispense and horribly effective. They may be the threat of the near
future...
It wouldn't take much. This is the poor man's atom bomb.
A gram of anthrax culture contains a trillion spores, theoretically enough for a
hundred million fatal doses. The stuff can be spread into the air with backpack
sprayers or even perfume atomisers. The UN's specialists say that 45 kg of
anthrax bacteria sprayed around a city of one million could kill 36,000 people
within a week. And Saddam has produced anthrax in large amounts, along with
botulinum, a poison that kills by paralysing the victim, and aflatoxin, a
carcinogen."
And then in the same year an Australian newspaper had the
headline: "UK port alert on Iraq anthrax plot -– All British ports had been
put on alert after reports that Iraq may have been planning to flood the country
with the deadly germ warfare agent anthrax, in bottles disguised as duty free
goods, the government said yesterday."
A list of biological agents sold to Iraq by the United States
prior to the Gulf War was obtained by our office a while ago. It is interesting
to note that the weapons which Saddam is threatening to use against America and
Britain were sold by the Americans to Saddam at the time when he was getting
ready to attack Iran.
There are certainly many strange twists in history, and
therefore at this stage America is nervously watching, as there is talk of
crop-dusters being used by the terrorists to come in again with another attack,
more deadly than the first on the World Trade Center.
Luke 21:25-27 seems to cover the situation very well:
"And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the
moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with
perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring; Men's hearts failing them for
fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the
powers of heaven shall be shaken." Verse 27: "And then shall they see the
Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory." (emphasis added).
These words are a blessing to the believer but spell doom to
the unbeliever. It is definitely time to seek the Lord.
