Brain Cancer Instead of Lung Cancer

Anybody who has visited the hospital and observed cancer
patients moving on towards death will know the horror of this disease.

We quote here from the Waikato Times, 4 November 2000. Teens
hanging up on cigarettes?

"The youthful addiction to mobile telephones that
dismays so many parents and teachers could be providing a big benefit -– "mobiles"
could be turning teenagers away from tobacco, British experts said today.

Smoking has declined among British teenagers from 30 per cent
in 1996 to 23 per cent in 1999, while ownership of the ubiquitous portable
telephones among 15-to-17 year olds skyrocketed to 70 per cent by August 2000.

Clive Bates, of the anti-smoking group ASH (Action on Smoking
and Health) and Anne Charlton of the University of Manchester, suggest it is
more than coincidence.

"The reason kids smoke is very similar to the reason they
use mobile phones," Bates said. "There is an incredible overlap between what
smoking and mobile phone use means to kids -– membership of a peer group,
something to do with their hands, something to be stylish and adult with and
something to be a bit rebellious with."

For teenagers, the pocket-sized devices are smart, chic and
adult. And like cigarettes, they are important in socialising. "For some
kids a mobile phone is going to be seen as essential..." Bates said." End

I have a notice on the wall of my office which is
headlined Smoking is good for you.

"It makes you smell so badly that dogs won't bite you

It makes you cough at night, even in your sleep, so
burglars always think you're awake.

It saves you from suffering the indignity of an old age."

Years ago I inquired of the Lord as to whether He had
anything to say about smoking and immediately my attention was turned to a
Scripture.

1 Corinthians 6:19-20. "What? Know ye not that your body is
the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are
not your own? For ye are bought with a price, therefore glorify God in your
body, and in your spirit, which are God's."

The night I read this verse I could hear a voice within me
saying, "If you want to light a fire, do it in your own building but not in
mine."
