Digital Angel – Microchips for People?

Is this the mark of the beast? A company called Applied
Digital Solutions has announced that it has acquired the patent on the miniature
digital transceiver which they call 'Digital Angel'.

Implantable in humans and inserted just under the skin, the
Digital Angel device contains a maintenance free regenerating power supply, that
is the transceiver is powered electromechanically through the movement of the
muscles and it can be activated by the wearer or by the monitoring facility. The
"smart" device is also small enough to be hidden inconspicuously on or
within valuable personal belongings and priceless works of art.

The device will make today's ID cards totally obsolete.
Everyone on earth will have their complete ID, history, and personal data on a
chip under their skin.

Let us compare this with the Scripture written in 96AD.
Revelation 13:16-18. This prophecy makes it clear that a future world leader
will finally implant something in people's bodies to identify them for use in
buying and selling. "And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor,
free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads. And
that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the
beast, or the number of his name. Here is wisdom. Let him that hath
understanding count the number of the beast, for it is the number of a man, and
his number is Six hundred threescore and six."

Are we living in the end of an era, or are we imagining these
